This site, SihaDerana.com, is the worldwide representation of SihaDerana, Inc., a public charity incorporated in Delaware, U.S.A.; organized and operated exclusively for charitable, educational, religious, and literary purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of the United States of America. Currently we are operating pending approvals under 501(c)(3).

The site map is available to aide you to navigate through this site, to go from page to page browsing through in any sequence as you see fit. You can go to any page and then back to where you came from, using the browser’s “back” and “forward” arrow buttons.

In this site you will find words scripted in the Sinhala language, embedded within the English text. Most of the information pages are made available in Sinhala as well.

Why Buddhism

 

Buddhism is presented here with a wide coverage. This is because the day-to-day living of the vast majority of Sri Lanka’s population is closely associated with Buddhism. It is the background of over 15 million people – over 90% of the Sinhala people, amounting to over 75% of the entire population of the country.

Why Sinhala

 

The reasons for this are,

  • This site is existing purely for educational purposes giving information to anyone who desires such. We know that some of our readers are Sri Lankan who would understand the subject matter easier if it were presented in Sinhala.
  • Pronunciation of most Sinhala words cannot be represented correctly in the English Language. Where we believe that correct sounds are required for better ease of communication we present the words also in Sinhala, for the benefit of the persons who understand Sinhala.
  • This site also presents material associated with Buddhism, the philosophy of the Buddha. Most of this knowledge is available in its unadulterated form in Sri Lanka, and is available documented in the Sinhala language.
  • We also have a course on Sinhala education to assist anyone who likes to learn this language, either to tour the Island or to understand Buddhism in its original form. This course is available as a self-learning aide from this site through our lesson pages, or to be tutored by a person on a one-to-one basis via video communication over the internet.

  • SihaDerana, Inc. is organized so as to get funding primarily from public support.
