Since the ‘Ahanna’ sections of the lessons are there to help you listen to sounds of sinhala, don’t worry if you don’t recognize the odd looking letters for what they are. Recognition will come with time and practice and is not important for you to learn how to speak sinhala. Just click on any of the letters below to hear what it sounds like.
Having finished the vowel sounds of the sinhala hodiya in lessons one and two, we can now move on to the consonant sounds of the sinhala hodiya. Since there are a goodly number of these, we have introduced you to only some of them in this lesson.
The remainder of the consonant sounds of the Shudda sinhala hodiya can be found in the next lesson – lesson four.
Remember to repeat out loud each of the sounds that you hear. The more you practice saying the sounds the easier it will become for you to pronounce them.
To a person who is only just starting to learn Sinhala, some of the letters may sound alike. If you listen carefully however, you will notice that each of the letters do sound different from the other - it just takes a little time to sort it out.
The easiest way to sort the different sounds out is by connecting what you hear to different words being spoke. And to that end, the 'Kiyanna' sections of each lesson can help you in your endeavors.
