Since the ‘Ahanna’ sections of the lessons are there to help you listen to sounds of sinhala, don’t worry if you don’t recognize the odd looking letters for what they are. Recognition will come with time and practice and is not important for you to learn how to speak sinhala. Just click on any of the letters below to hear what it sounds like.
In this second lesson you will find that your foray into the Sinhala Hodiya – the Sinhala Alphabet – is continued. Here, we will introduce you to the remainder of the sinhala letters which comprise of mainly vowel sounds.
The letters introduced to you here and in lessons three and four are only from the Shuddha Sinhala Hodiya - ශුද්ධ සිංහල හෝඩිය - that is, the Pure Sinhala Alphabet. The Mishra Sinhala Hodiya - මිශ්ර සිංහල හෝඩිය - or, the Mixed Sinhala Alphabet, has additional letters in it which we cover in lessons five and six of the Ahanna section.
