Learn Sinhala: Introduction
Note: Some lessons might require Flash player plug-ins to work on your browser.
This is an introduction to our series lessons on how to learn Sinhala. We hope to update this section regularly to give you a better chance to learn Sinhala with ease and in your own time.
This is a free service we provide as our goal at SihaDerana, is one of education.
The lessons are necessarily short, especially in the beginning, to make it easier for you, or your children, to learn Sinhala. It should also be noted that both the reading and the writing exercises begin, at the very beginning so to speak. This, we have found to be the easiest method of learning.
Each lesson will be explained in brief before you begin - both in writing and in an alternative audio format, such as you will find on the far right hand side of this introduction.
If you click on the button you will be able to hear the entire introduction being spoken. For an example of what each lesson will be like please go here.
Each of the lessons will be presented to you in separate sections, and each section itself will comprise of a number of smaller sub-sections. In this way you can pick and choose which section (or sub-section) you want to do each day.
In this way you can advance at your own pace and even go back and forth through the lessons as you feel like. Naturally we recommend going through the lessons in the order laid out, especially if you are only just beginning to learn Sinhala.
Each lesson will consist of three main sections - Ahanna, Liyanna, Kiyanna - along with a few other sections which are supplemental to these. And for those of you eager to run before you can walk, we have provided an entirely separate section dedicated to dialogues of everyday conversations.
These can help you to carry on a simple conversation in Sinhala if you feel the need to do so. They are also geared towards helping the adventurous traveler to speak Sinhala like a native almost from the minute you set foot on Sri Lankan soil.
It is our sincerest wish here at SihaDerana, to help you learn Sinhala as easily and as painlessly as possible. Any feedback and comments that you have are therefore very valuable to, so please feel free to tell us what you are thinking.
