Our Philosophy
It is a fact of life that the world today has changed from what it was fifty or even five years ago. Changes are required in order that humanity may progress, but not all changes are for the better.
When ancient civilizations and races such as the Sinhala begin to lose their high moral values, strong traditions, and culture which exists for the ease of living of its people, this can only have a detrimental effect. After all, these traditions and the way of life are what make the Sinhala people Sinhala, a section of humanity of smiling, happy, and contented people.
We at SihaDerana believe in change as well as good education. Through the gradual loss of the ancient culture and traditions, and the sense of high values for life that our ancestors were brought up with, we are living in a society that is allowing it's strength to slip away. Not only does this affect the youth of today and of the future, but everyone in today's society.
Based upon our philosophy
SihaDerana strives to,
- Educate the world in general and the Sinhala people in particular about the richness of our culture and civilization.
- Preserve the wealth of knowledge available in Sri Lanka, relating to all aspects of contented and healthy living.
- Present unadulterated knowledge about Theravada Buddhism, the guiding philosophy and the way of life of over 93% of the Sinhala people.
- Make Sinhala a language which will become popular in the world.
- Make available the knowledge and experience level needed to enable future generations of Sinhala and all other Sri Lankans to prosper with a deep sense of pride in being Sri Lankan.
We all feel and are affected by the degradation of standards and the mis-interpretation of the Sinhala culture when people try to mold it to fit into today's world without a thought for whether what they are trying to achieve is leaving us better or worse off.
Our aim is to offer a place of knowledge, for people to find out more about the true facts and the richness of the Sinhala heritage, not only to the denizens in Sri Lanka, but to people all over the world. To remind the people of what good living and truly civilized ways are being forgotten, before it is too late. And to invoke pride and promote understanding of a culture and race which was once great and can be so again.
These are the fundamental objectives that SihaDerana is driven to achieve and we welcome all support from any individual or group who would like to join us or help us along this path in making the difference for Sri Lanka and her people.
We at SihaDerana believe that each of us can individually make a difference. We know that together we can all make the difference.
