...Together we can make the difference

We firmly believe that every single individual can help, even in their own small way, to form an unstoppable force for a brighter more prosperous future in Sri Lanka.

Jathika Namal Uyana
When To Go

There is no “bad” time in which to visit the Jathika Namal Uyana, although it must be said that there are better times than others. These better times coincide with the blossoming and flowering of the Naa trees between the months of April and June.

This is one season in which you will find that all your senses are pandered to as you wander through the Naa forest full of the vibrant colors of the Naa trees and the intoxicating scents of the Naa flowers.

If you find that you don’t actively enjoy becoming drenched and waterlogged right along with the trees in the forest you might want to avoid the monsoon season which span the months of October to February.

Other than that there can and will be the occasional downpour but these are always surprise visitations and unless you decide to take a trek through the Naa forest while the sky is overcast and water laden, then you will for the most part be able to avoid getting caught in a sudden downpour.

Otherwise, if you enjoy the occasional dousing – or in the case of the monsoon rains, a bit more along the lines of a dunking – then you will find that you have no problems with trekking through the water laden passages within the forest during the rain.

There is without a doubt an amazing quality to a newly washed forest. It cannot truly be appreciated unless you are there in person to witness this almost miraculous new vigor which infuses every living thing within the confines of the forest.

In fact it would not be presumptuous to say that only the humans find the ever unceasing torrential downpour to be a bit of drag on their spirits. For everything else it is a time for rejuvenation.

If you do decide to take a trek through the Naa forest during the monsoon season, then you need to be fully prepared to be drenched from top to toe.

And if you go in willingly whilst it is still pouring, you will also need to be prepared for the amused and surprised glances that will surely come your way.

After all, who but a tourist – be they the local or the foreign variety – will want to take a walk through a forest in the heavy monsoon rains? That said, it is an experience that you will get in precious few other places.

You will need to be a more cautious during heavy rains as walking is a little more difficult and paths can become more like obstacle courses. However, if you exercise a little common sense, you should come out of your experience a different person, albeit maybe a more waterlogged one.

It still stands however, that there are really no bad times in which to visit the Jathika Namal Uyana, just varying degrees of good times.
